The arcade-style beat-'em-up game Super Doginals launched at a perfect time this month. It was inscribed on the Dogecoin blockchain just as the original meme coin saw a major resurgence in attention and demand, with DOGE reaching a three-year price peak.
However, there's little evidence that the release was intentionally timed. According to the pseudonymous creator Pimax, the game was made to honor the fun and lighthearted spirit that has defined Dogecoin and its community for more than ten years.
“I created Super Doginals as a tribute to the Doge spirit and playful culture,” they explained, “adding my own touch to it.”
What Is Super Doginals?
Super Doginals is a web-based game that stands out for its polish and robustness—especially considering it's a crypto game inscribed directly onto a blockchain. Its design is simple, inspired by classic button-mashing brawlers like Fatal Fury and Streets of Rage, but it features charming artwork, music, and truly embodies the meme coin’s fandom.
Pimax developed the game using OpenBOR, an open-source game engine that was ported to WebAssembly to ensure smooth performance in web browsers and compatibility with the Doginals protocol.
The lightweight nature of the engine was essential for a game intended to be fully inscribed on-chain. The retro pixel art style not only matched the gameplay but also helped minimize file size. The music, however, posed a bigger challenge.
“Pixel art was an ideal choice because it’s lightweight and scales nicely on higher resolutions without needing extra data,” said Pimax. “The heaviest component was the music—35 minutes in total—so we compressed it into the web-friendly OGG format to keep it Dogecoin-compatible.”
The On-Chain Vision
Pimax aimed to put everything on-chain using the Doginals protocol, which allows users to inscribe artwork, code, and other data directly onto the Dogecoin blockchain. Similar to Bitcoin’s Ordinals, Doginals can produce NFT-like collectibles and also support interactive, fully on-chain games and applications.
This wasn't Pimax’s first experiment with on-chain games on Dogecoin. Earlier this year, they ported the original shareware version of the first-person shooter Doom and released a Doge-themed version of Tetris.
But Super Doginals is a more ambitious project—not only because it’s an original game but also due to its scale. The game uses multiple inscriptions that work together through recursion, a process that Doginals uses to combine all pieces into a single, playable experience. This method also opens the door for future add-ons and community contributions.
“We inscribed the game engine, assets, and utility functions separately, then tied them all together in a final Doginal,” Pimax shared. “This approach enables others to build on Super Doginals by adding their own levels, characters, or even creating entire games on top of existing on-chain content.”
Players will also have the option to create a “delegate” inscription, allowing them to store a version of the game in their own Dogecoin wallet and play it through compatible wallet apps. More details on this process are expected soon.
The Role of AI in Development
Although Super Doginals was born from Pimax’s genuine passion for Dogecoin, they admitted that AI tools played a significant role in making this solo project feasible. According to Pimax, AI helped execute the vision without stripping away the human touch.
“As a solo developer, I used AI tools to accelerate development—whether drafting art, composing music, coding, or gaining insight,” they said. “Today’s AI tools give developers superpowers. While they don’t replace human talent or creativity, they provide a massive productivity boost, making it possible to create a game like this.”
They concluded, “It still required many months of work with a lot of hands-on effort, but AI, combined with ingenuity and determination, made it possible to tackle this project on my own.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Super Doginals?
Super Doginals is a retro-style beat-'em-up game fully inscribed on the Dogecoin blockchain. It pays homage to classic arcade brawlers and embraces the fun, community-driven culture of Dogecoin.
How can I play Super Doginals?
You can play the game directly in a web browser. It is free to access, and no downloads are required. In the future, players may also be able to store a version in their Dogecoin wallet.
What are Doginals?
Doginals are a protocol that allows users to inscribe data—such as art, games, or code—directly onto the Dogecoin blockchain. They are similar to Bitcoin Ordinals but designed for the DOGE network.
Can I build on top of Super Doginals?
Yes. The game was designed with recursion, meaning other developers can create new levels, characters, or even entirely new games using the existing on-chain assets and engine.
Was AI used to create Super Doginals?
AI tools assisted in areas like art, music, coding, and conceptual development. However, the creator emphasized that human creativity and effort were central to the project.
Is Super Doginals an NFT?
Not exactly. While it uses inscription technology similar to NFTs, Super Doginals is a fully playable game that exists on-chain. It represents a functional application of blockchain technology beyond digital collectibles.
